YouTube will use AI to generate ideas, titles, and even full videos

Pivot 5: 5 stories. 5 minutes a day. 5 days a week.

1. YouTube will use AI to generate ideas, titles, and even full videos

YouTube

YouTube has introduced several AI-related features to help creators create videos. The first is the new Inspiration tab in the YouTube Studio app, which suggests video concepts, provides titles, thumbnails, and even writes an outline. The AI-powered tool can be used to build out entire projects and is expected to be effective at gaming the YouTube algorithm. The second feature is the integration of DeepMind video model Veo into YouTube Shorts, which is part of the "Dream Screen" feature.

Veo is integrated into the normal Shorts editor, but clips are only available for clips up to six seconds long. Other AI features include the platform's auto-dubbing feature and AI tools for interacting with fans through the Communities section of the app. While these features may be useful tools or shortcuts, YouTube is confident that AI can make most aspects of a creator's job easier and potentially encourage more creators to create.

2. LinkedIn scraped user data for training before updating its terms of service

LinkedIn has revealed that the platform scrapes personal data to train "content creation AI models" without updating its terms of service. Users in the U.S. have an opt-out toggle in their settings screen, but not in the EU, EEA, or Switzerland, likely due to those regions' data privacy rules. LinkedIn's generative AI models may be trained by another provider, like Microsoft.

The company collects and uses data about users' use of the platform, including personal data, including their use of AI features, posts, articles, language preference, and feedback. To opt out of LinkedIn's data scraping, users can click on the "Data Privacy" section of the LinkedIn settings menu on desktop and toggle off the "Use my data for training content creation AI models" option. The nonprofit Open Rights Group has called on the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) to investigate LinkedIn and other social networks that train on user data by default.

Pivot 5 made with Midjourney

Luma AI, a San Francisco-based startup founded by former Google, Meta, Adobe, and Apple engineers, has announced an API for its Dream Machine video generation model. The Dream Machine API allows users to build applications and services atop Luma's popular video generation model, bringing AI video technology to more apps, teams, and users worldwide.

The API is available to begin using now, unlike rival Runway, which debuted two versions of its API for smaller teams and large enterprises via Google Forms waitlists. Luma's Dream Machine model, which debuted in June 2024, has gained popularity due to its high degree of realism, fast generation times, and accessibility. The company claims that Dream Machine is the "world's most popular video model" based on the number of users and generations metrics.

Microsoft Excel has been introduced as a new feature in the generative AI tool Copilot. The new feature allows users to format data, use common formulas, and visualize data in charts and pivot tables. Copilot also works with text, allowing users to search for keywords and phrases and analyze data accordingly.

The tool also understands Python, allowing users without prior coding knowledge to use it. In PowerPoint, Copilot can generate an outline of a presentation from a prompt, slot information into individual slides, and design a presentation, even pulling in brand pictures or AI-generated images.
