Both countries have been wary of giving their adversary an advantage by limiting their own research and capabilities, but observers have long expressed concern that the existential risks of such an approach are far too high.
The rise of AI has fed a host of concerns, including fears it could be used to disrupt the democratic process, turbocharge fraud, cause widespread job losses, and even have military applications. The rapid growth of gen AI, which can create text, images, and video in seconds, has heightened fears that the new technology could be used to sway major elections this year.

5. Treating a chatbot nicely might boost its performance
Treating a chatbot nicely can boost its performance, as it can convey urgency or importance. Researchers from Microsoft, Beijing Normal University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences found that generative AI models perform better when prompted in a way that conveys urgency or importance.
Emotice prompts manipulate a model's underlying probability mechanisms, triggering parts that wouldn't normally be activated by typical, less emotionally charged prompts. However, being "nice" to the model doesn't mean that all reasoning problems can be solved effortlessly or the model develops reasoning capabilities similar to a human.
