1. Sora is here

OpenAI

Sora, an AI model that can create realistic videos from text, is now available as a standalone product on Sora.com for ChatGPT Plus and Pro users. The new version, Sora Turbo, is faster than the February preview and offers a wide range of features, including the ability to generate videos up to 1080p resolution, 20 sec long, and in widescreen, vertical, or square aspect ratios.

Users can also bring their own assets to extend, remix, and blend, or generate entirely new content from text. The platform also features a storyboard tool and Featured and Recent feeds. Sora is included as part of the Plus account at no additional cost, with the Pro plan offering 10x more usage, higher resolutions, and longer durations. The company is working on tailored pricing for different users and aims to make the technology affordable for everyone.

2. Study claims AI could boost detection of breast cancer by 21%

Pivot 5 made with Midjourney

A US breast-screening program using AI has shown that women who paid for AI-enhanced scans were 21% more likely to have cancer detected. DeepHealth, owned by RadNet, found that overall cancer detection rates were 43% higher for those enrolled in the program.

The remaining 21% was due to AI driving recall rates for additional imaging. However, the benefits of AI in this context are still being quantified through randomized controlled trials.

4. Meet Willow, state-of-the-art quantum chip

Google

Google Quantum AI has announced Willow, its latest quantum chip, which has achieved two major achievements. First, Willow can reduce errors exponentially as we scale up using more qubits, breaking a key challenge in quantum error correction.

Second, Willow performed a standard benchmark computation in under five minutes that would take one of today's fastest supercomputers 10 septillion years, a number vastly exceeding the age of the Universe. This breakthrough marks a significant step towards commercially relevant applications and real-time error correction on a superconducting quantum system.

5. Ilya Sutskever hired him to create ChatGPT’s voice at OpenAI. Now, his startup aims to unlock AI’s emotional intelligence

Alexis Conneau, former OpenAI researcher and co-founder of WaveForms

Alexis Conneau, former OpenAI researcher, has founded WaveForms, a new venture backed by $40 million in seed funding. The company aims to use AI voices to unlock emotional general intelligence (EGI), a concept Conneau calls the "social-emotional layer" of AI.

WaveForms audio LLMs will capture emotional subtleties of voices, understand conversation context, and convey complex emotions. Conneau left OpenAI to focus on tackling the tough AI challenge of integrating audio intelligence directly into large language models. The venture aims to push the boundaries of audio AI and voice technology.
