1. Reddit is bringing AI-powered, automatic translation to dozens of new countries

Reddit is introducing machine learning-powered translations to over 35 new locales in Europe, Asia, and Latin America to expand its English-centric social network. The move follows Reddit's first site-wide translation for French speakers, and allows users to specify their preferred content language for post recommendations and display language.

The new translation feature allows users to configure posts and comments to auto-translate from a community's original language to their own language, allowing conversations to flow between languages without manual translation. Reddit will also index content in the supported languages for search engines, allowing users to search for answers in their own language. The service is already available in Brazil and Spain.

2. Visa Buys Featurespace to Add AI-Based Real-Time Fraud Defense

Visa is acquiring payments protection technology firm Featurespace to enhance its anti-fraud capabilities. The acquisition is expected to cost $925 million and close during fiscal year 2025.

The combined expertise will allow clients to manage fraud in real-time and protect payments with AI-powered solutions. Featurespace's strong foundation in AI will enhance Visa's existing product portfolio and address clients' most complex challenges.

3. China’s plan to make watermarks happen

China has big plans for AI content labeling. A new regulation drafted this month aims to legally enforce a similar system to voluntary global initiatives like C2PA Authentication.

If enacted, AI providers in China must add explicit labels and metadata encryption to AI content, or face government penalties. Social media companies will also need to scan for these watermarks to label content on their platforms, and add more information to help track its journey online.

4. Google’s NotebookLM enhances AI note-taking with YouTube, audio file sources, sharable audio discussions

Google has announced updates to its AI note-taking tool, NotebookLM, allowing users to create sharable AI-generated audio discussions and summarize YouTube videos and audio files.

The tool, initially used by educators and learners, is now attracting more workplace users, with 50% being educators and learners and 50% business professionals.
