1. OpenAI’s DevDay brings Realtime API and other treats for AI app developers

OpenAI is aiming to convince developers to build tools using its AI models at its 2024 DevDay. The company announced several new tools, including a public beta of its "Realtime API" for low-latency, AI-generated voice responses. The Realtime API allows developers to build nearly real-time, speech-to-speech experiences in their apps, with six voices provided by OpenAI.

Developers can't use third-party voices to prevent copyright issues. OpenAI also introduced vision fine-tuning in its API, allowing developers to use images and text to fine-tune their applications of GPT-4o.

Series AI is aiming to be the new Unity, powering game developers. Haritatos has decades of experience in game development and is known for his expertise in generative AI. Series has grown from 17 employees at the time of its launch to over 200 employees.

4. College students used Meta’s smart glasses to dox people in real time

Harvard students have created a demo of I-XRAY, a technology that uses facial recognition to instantly identify people's identities, phone numbers, and addresses.

The demo uses Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and public databases, and the students use the technology to identify classmates, their addresses, and relatives in real time. The goal is to raise awareness about the potential of this technology.
