1. NVIDIA releases Open Synthetic data generation pipeline for training LLMs

NVIDIA has released Nemotron-4 340B, a family of open models designed for developers to generate synthetic data for training LLMs in various industries. The model includes base, instruct, and reward models, which are optimized for use with NVIDIA NeMo and NVIDIA TensorRT-LLM libraries.

The model can be downloaded from Hugging Face and will soon be available for access at ai.nvidia.com. The model can be fine-tuned using NeMo and TensorRT-LLM, and aligned with datasets annotated by Nemotron-4 340B Reward.

2. Meta halts plans to train AI on Facebook, Instagram posts in EU

Meta is halting plans for its AI assistant in Europe due to objections from Ireland's privacy regulator, the Data Protection Commission (DPC). The DPC requested Meta to delay training its large language models on publicly posted content on Facebook and Instagram profiles.

Meta has been informing European users about data collection and offering an opt-out option to comply with European privacy laws. European regulators welcomed the pause, stating Meta's legal basis for collecting personal data is the opposite of GDPR compliance.

3. White House showcases what’s possible with AI across 12 agencies

The Biden administration is showcasing the potential of artificial intelligence in government services at an AI aspirations summit. The White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy demonstrated how a dozen federal agencies are utilizing AI to deliver more services to more people. Accelerating AI use in government requires expertise, resources, and data sets from the private sector and academia.

The administration believes AI can improve customer service, provide better context understanding, and protect data and privacy. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona warns that AI could cause significant disruption in schools and universities.

4. Microsoft to delay launch of AI Recall tool due to security concerns

Microsoft will no longer ship Recall, an AI tool that tracks user activity, when the Copilot+ PC is released on June 18. The tool will be a preview feature available only through the Windows Insiders Program (WIP). Microsoft plans to make the AI feature available on all Copilot+ PCs soon after receiving feedback through WIP.

Recall became controversial due to potential hackers obtaining user information. Microsoft initially turned off Recall by default and implemented additional security measures, including an encrypted search database and Windows Hello enrollment.
