Elon Musk's Neuralink brain chip, designed to help paralyzed patients control external technology using their minds, has been implanted in 29-year-old Noah Arbaugh. Arbaugh, who is paralyzed from the shoulders down, is participating in Neuralink's six-year trial to test the device's safety. The chip contains 1024 electrodes across 64 threads.
2. ChatGPT users will soon be able to interact with tables and charts and add files directly from Drive
ChatGPT is introducing enhancements to its data analysis capabilities, including the ability to upload the latest file versions directly from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, interact with tables and charts in an expandable view, and customize and download charts for presentations and documents.
These improvements will be available in the new flagship model, GPT-4o, for ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise users over the coming weeks. ChatGPT can handle tasks like merging and cleaning large datasets, creating charts, and uncovering insights, making it easier for beginners to perform in-depth analyses and saves experts time on routine data-cleaning tasks.

3. UK opens office in San Francisco to tackle AI risk
The UK's AI Safety Institute, established in November 2023, is set to open a second location in San Francisco to address AI risks. The move is to gain closer proximity to the epicenter of AI development, where companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Meta are building foundational AI technology.
The UK's secretary of state for science, innovation, and technology, Michelle Donelan, said having people on the ground in San Francisco would give the institute access to the headquarters of these AI companies, allowing for more collaborative work and increased visibility.

4. Sophia the AI robot gives commencement speech at New York college
D'Youville University in Buffalo, New York, chose an artificially intelligent robot named Sophia as its commencement speaker during its spring ceremony. Sophia, who appeared on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," was expected to provide an interview-style discussion about students' accomplishments and their achievements.
However, some students created a petition to replace the robot with a human. Sophia offered lifelong learning, adaptability, and embracing failure as common commencement speeches.

5. Sam Altman is ‘embarrassed’ that OpenAI threatened to revoke equity if exiting employees wouldn’t sign an NDA
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has been accused of making exiting employees choose between keeping their vested equity and speaking out against the company. According to a report by Vox, employees could lose all vested equity they earned during their time at the company if they didn't sign a nondisclosure and non-disparagement agreement.
Altman confirmed the provision existed but said the company has never clawed back anyone's vested equity. The company is changing the exit paperwork.
