3. Macron unveils $112B AI investment package, France’s answer to US’ Stargate
French President Emmanuel Macron has announced €109 billion in private investments in the AI ecosystem, equivalent to around $112 billion at current exchange rates. The investment is expected to be deployed over the next few years, similar to the $500 billion announced by the US with Stargate.
Most of the funds will go towards new AI-focused data centers, similar to Stargate. France is also considering investing billions in an AI cluster, aiming to compete with models from Alibaba, Anthropic, DeepSeek, Meta, and OpenAI. The French government plans to pledge one gigawatt of nuclear power to AI training by the end of 2026.
