1. Microsoft Incorporates Bing into ChatGPT, Expanding the AI's Capability

Microsoft has announced Bing will become the default search engine in ChatGPT, OpenAI's advanced language model.

This integration permits access to real-time web information, surpassing ChatGPT's training cut-off in September 2021. The roll-out is initially for ChatGPT+ premium subscribers, with wider availability following. Alongside Bing, over 70 plugins are being integrated into ChatGPT+. Bing app downloads rose 24% from May 1-22. Despite this, Google maintains strong mobile distribution advantages. Samsung, the leading smartphone maker, continues to utilize Google Search as its default engine, though Bing is not discounted for future use.

Despite Bing integration, Google retains advantages in data, distribution, and AI-based ad technology.

2. Meta Unveils AI Models for Massive Multilingual Speech Translation

Meta researchers have introduced AI models capable of translating more than 4,000 languages.

These Massively Multilingual Speech (MMS) models include text-to-speech and speech-to-text capabilities. Notably, the text-to-speech model generates speech output in over 1,100 languages, and the speech-to-text version recognizes more than 4,000 spoken languages. Meta utilized religious texts to collect a substantial multilingual audio dataset. Despite the religious origin of the texts, the model doesn't exhibit religious language bias. Both models and the underlying code are open-sourced by Meta.

The company plans to further enhance the MMS models by adding support for more languages and dialects.

3. Snowflake Acquires Neeva, Bolstering AI-based Conversational Search Capabilities

Snowflake, a cloud data warehousing company, has announced the acquisition of Neeva, a search startup formed by ex-Google executives.

The transaction aims to enhance Snowflake's intelligent and conversational search experiences for its users. Neeva, founded in 2019, initially focused on developing a privacy-oriented, ad-free search engine but later shifted its focus towards enterprise applications of large language models and generative AI.

This technology is expected to empower Snowflake users and app developers to create rich search-enabled and conversational experiences, thereby enabling non-technical users to derive more value from their data.

4. Lattice Semiconductor Foresees Growth in Automation, Robotics, and Automotive with Expanded FPGA Portfolio

Lattice's newly introduced Avant FPGA family enhances its Serviceable Available Market (SAM) by incorporating mid-sized FPGAs. These additions will increase the Average Sales Price of the company's products.
