1. Meta Llama 3: The most capable openly available LLM to date

Meta and Microsoft have introduced Meta Llama 3, the next generation of their open-source large language model. The models will soon be available on various platforms and will be supported by hardware platforms from AMD, AWS, Dell, Intel, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm. Meta AI, built with Llama 3 technology, is one of the world's leading AI assistants.

The first two models of Meta Llama 3 are now available for broad use, featuring pretrained and instruction-fine-tuned language models with 8B and 70B parameters. The goal is to make Llama 3 multilingual and multimodal, have longer context, and improve overall performance across core LLM capabilities.

2.Logitech wants you to press its new AI button

Logitech

Logitech is introducing its own AI Prompt Builder, which uses a dedicated button on the mouse or keyboard to summon ChatGPT. The tool also provides preset "recipes" to help prompt the chatbot. Users can use the Logi AI Prompt Builder to rephrase text, turn it into bullet points, make it shorter, or fit a specific word count. The tool also allows users to customize the prompt to sound.

Logitech will also sell an AI edition of its M750 mouse with a teal-colored key to instantly launch the prompt builder. The special-edition AI mouse is available in the US and UK for $49.99 or £54.99, respectively, through Logitech's online store. The prompt builder is part of the company's bundled Logi Options Plus software.

3. Boston Dynamics’ new Atlas robot

Boston Dynamics has unveiled its new Atlas robot, powered by electricity, replacing its hydraulic-powered predecessor. The leaner Atlas robot has improved range-of-motion and size, which can unlock new work environments. The Atlas is still a work in progress, but it will first head to Hyundai factories before hitting the market.

Other startups, such as Agility and Tesla, are also working on the humanoid robot project, which could lead to quicker progress and a general-purpose robot that can learn. AI is set to play a significant role in how robots can learn and perform more without direct programming.

4. Google is combining its Android software and Pixel hardware divisions to more broadly integrate AI

Google is merging its Android software and Pixel hardware divisions to integrate artificial intelligence more widely. The move is part of a broader plan to boost innovation and boost the Android and Chrome ecosystems. Rick Osterloh, who previously oversaw the hardware group, will oversee both operations.

The combination aims to infuse AI into features faster, as phone technology is increasingly dependent on AI. Google is also reorganizing its AI research and responsibility groups.

5. Andreessen Horowitz’s $7.2B new funds for a ‘new era’

Andreessen Horowitz has raised $7.2 billion in new funds for a "new era" in the startup space industry. The US space agency is open to more input on NASA's mission to Mars, which was expected to cost $11 billion and take ages.
