1. Google announces Android XR, a new OS for headsets and smart glasses

META

Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses are now offering live AI, live translation between languages, and Shazam for music identification. These updates are part of Meta's goal of creating augmented reality glasses that can replace smartphones. Live AI allows users to start a "live session" with Meta, allowing them to ask questions without having to say "Hey Meta."

Live translation allows users to hear spoken language in English through the glasses' speakers or as a typed transcript in the Meta View app. Shazam integration allows the glasses to identify music playing around them. All Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses owners can enjoy Shazam integration as part of Meta's v11 update. To access live translation and live AI, users must join Meta's Early Access Program.

3. Google’s new AI tool Whisk uses images as prompts

Google

Google has introduced an AI tool called Whisk, which allows users to use an existing image as a prompt for an image generator. It has a basic interface with inputs for style and subject, and three predefined styles: sticker, enamel pin, and plushie. It also includes an advanced editor that allows users to use text or a source image in three categories: subject, scene, and style. However, the tool has not produced results that match the user's queries. Google warns that Whisk will only draw from key characteristics of the source image.
