Cyberhaven, a cybersecurity company, reported that hackers modified several Chrome extensions with malicious code after gaining access to admin accounts through a phishing campaign.
The malicious extension targeted logins to social media advertising and AI platforms, stealing data such as access tokens, user IDs, and cookies. Cyberhaven advised customers to revoke and rotate their passwords and advised them to rotate their credentials. The company detected the breach on December 25 and removed the malicious version within an hour.

2. Nvidia completes acquisition of AI infrastructure startup Run:ai
Nvidia has completed its acquisition of Run:ai, an Israeli startup that helps manage and optimize AI hardware infrastructure. As part of the merger, Run:ai said its software, which currently only works with Nvidia products, will be open sourced, meaning Nvidia rivals like AMD and Intel will be able to adapt it for their hardware.
Nvidia announced its intent to acquire Run:ai in April. At the time, sources told TechCrunch that the price tag was $700 million. But the deal ran into regulatory hurdles.

3. How to use Visual Intelligence, Apple's take on Google Lens
Apple's iOS 18.2 rollout includes Visual Intelligence, a tool that uses the camera system and AI to analyze images in real-time and provide useful information. This tool is currently only available for iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, but could eventually be available for older models.
To use Visual Intelligence, long-press the Camera Control button and point your phone at something, select ChatGPT or Google Image Search, or tap the circle at the bottom of the screen. The tool can also provide details about a business, such as hours of operation, menus, and reservations.

4. Facebook planning to flood platform with AI-powered users
Meta plans to have Facebook filled with AI-generated characters to boost engagement on its platform. Users will create AI characters through Meta's AI studio, allowing users to interact with them similar to real humans. Meta has invested in AI and has released its AI Studio, which already has hundreds of thousands of characters.
Access to the AI Studio will be expanded to more countries outside the US, with a priority to make interactions with AI more social over the next two years. The AI Studio also allows Facebook and Instagram influencers to create AI versions of themselves for followers to interact with.

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have clashed with Donald Trump's Make America Great Again base, following Trump's choice of an Indian-born entrepreneur as his AI adviser. The row has pitted Musk and Ramaswamy against far-right activists Laura Loomer and Matt Gaetz, who are diehard supporters of Trump's immigration agenda.
Musk has called for a "Maga civil war" and argued that the US is doomed to decline without high-skilled foreign workers. However, Maga supporters, including Laura Loomer, have criticized Ramaswamy's argument, arguing that the US culture has become geared towards "mediocrity."
