1. Google tests out Gemini AI-created video presentations

Google is launching its Vids productivity app in Workspace Labs, aiming to make video creation as easy as making a slide for a work presentation. The app allows users to drop documents, slides, voiceovers, and video recordings into a timeline to create presentation videos.

It's not to be confused with AI tools like OpenAI's Sora, which can create lifelike footage from a prompt. Users can manually create presentations using templates and royalty-free stock content. The key feature is using Gemini to automatically insert stock footage, generate scripts, and even give AI voiceovers.

2. New Ray-Ban Meta glasses have outsold previous version, Essilux CEO says

Meta Platforms and EssilorLuxottica have announced that their new generation of smart glasses, the Ray-Ban Meta, have sold more than their old versions in just a few months. The glasses, which allow users to livestream directly to Facebook and Instagram, have built-in Meta AI, providing information on the item a user is looking at.

The first generation of smart glasses, called Ray-Ban Stories, struggled to catch on with consumers. The AI feature is currently restricted to the US and not allowed in Europe.

3. More than 40% of Japanese companies have no plan to make use of AI

A survey by Reuters shows that nearly a quarter of Japanese companies have adopted AI in their businesses, while over 40% have no plans to use the technology.

The survey, conducted by Nikkei Research, found that 24% of respondents have already introduced AI, 35% are planning to do so, and 41% have no plans. Challenges to AI adoption include a shortage of workers, labor costs, and concerns about reliability.

4. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon says he'll add thousands of jobs focused on AI in the next couple of years

JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon plans to add thousands of AI-related jobs within the next few years. He praised AI as a valuable productivity tool and said that JPMorgan has about 2,000 employees focused on data and analytics, machine learning research, and other critical AI areas.

Dimon also mentioned that the company has 400 AI projects and plans to continue growing each year, with use cases in marketing, fraud, and risk. He believes GenAI will reimagine entire business workflows.

5. At last, Apple’s Messages app will support RCS and scheduling texts

Apple's iMessage and Messages app in iOS 18 will feature the ability to schedule messages for later delivery, as well as support for RCS, the next-gen messaging standard. This feature will make texting with Android users less painful, as it allows users to send messages across time zones without disturbing them.

Despite being briefly mentioned at WWDC, the new scheduling feature is expected to be welcomed by users who run businesses or need to send important messages. However, Android users will still face issues with the green bubble curse.
