1. Google’s AI plans now include cybersecurity

Google's new cybersecurity product, Google Threat Intelligence, combines the work of its Mandiant cybersecurity unit and VirusTotal threat intelligence with the Gemini AI model. The Gemini 1.5 Pro LLM reduces the time needed to reverse engineer malware attacks and can be used to summarize threat reports into natural language.

The product also monitors potential threats before an attack, allowing users to see a larger picture of the cybersecurity landscape and prioritize their focus.

3. Nvidia Launches ChatRTX Chatbot for RTX GPUs

Nvidia

Nvidia has launched ChatRTX, an AI chatbot app, which offers improved performance and new features. The app allows users to train their own language model on local content from their PC, making it faster than cloud-based programs like Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT.

It supports speech-to-text, multiple languages, and can sort through image folders. However, ChatRTX struggles with follow-up questions and single-topic queries. The app is free to download and weighs 11.6GB.

4. Apple is reportedly developing chips to run artificial intelligence software in data centers

Apple is working on developing chips to run artificial intelligence software in data centers, with no clear timeline. The project, known as Project ACDC (Apple Chips in Data Center), has been in the works for several years and is being developed with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.

Apple's server chip is likely to focus on AI inference, rather than training AI models, which experts believe will continue to be dominated by Nvidia. Apple has been behind in the AI race, while rivals like Microsoft have invested billions in AI technology and infrastructure. CEO Tim Cook has stated that the company is investing significantly in AI technology.

5. Predibase Researchers Present a Technical Report of 310 Fine-tuned LLMs that Rival GPT-4

Researchers from Predibase have developed Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA), a Parameter Efficient Fine-Tuning (PEFT) method, to enhance specialized LLMs without requiring extensive computational resources. LoRA Land, a comprehensive project, evaluated 310 LoRA fine-tuned LLMs across 31 tasks, including classic NLP, coding, knowledge-based reasoning, and math-based problems.

The study found that LoRA-based fine-tuned models outperformed their base models, with some even surpassing GPT-4 by 10 points on average across different tasks. LoRAX, the open-source inference server, demonstrated its efficiency and scalability.
