1. Google Photos will show when images have been modified with AI

Google is introducing a new policy in its video editor, Google Photos, to better inform users about the use of generative AI in editing images and videos.

The policy will include a plain language statement at the bottom of the image details screen, listing the credit of the AI tool used to adapt the image and stating when the image has been modified with AI or if it is a composite of multiple photos.

2. Notion is making a super customizable email app

Notion

Notion is set to launch a fully customizable email app in early 2025, allowing users to create an inbox with tailored views, layouts, and actions. The app will integrate with Google and Gmail accounts, be available on iPhone and Android devices, and will be based on Skiff, the secure email service acquired in February.

Notion also launched a new Forms tool, more customization options, automation for Gmail notifications, and an update to its marketplace for selling and shopping for Notion templates.

3. President Biden sets up new AI guardrails for military, intelligence agencies

The White House has issued its first national security memorandum outlining the use of AI for military and intelligence agencies. The memo sets guidelines for AI usage in daily operations, sets deadlines for agencies to study AI applications and regulations, and aims to limit dystopian possibilities like autonomous weapons.

The memo also prohibits AI from making decisions about nuclear weapons, assigning asylum status to immigrants, tracking individuals based on race or religion, or determining terrorist status without human intervention. It also protects private-sector AI advances as national assets from foreign adversaries.
