3. Scientists use generative AI to answer complex questions in physics

.

Researchers at MIT and the University of Basel have developed a generative AI-based technique to classify phase transitions in physical systems. This method is more efficient than existing machine-learning approaches and does not require large, labeled training datasets.

The technique could help scientists investigate thermodynamic properties of novel materials or detect entanglement in quantum systems. The goal is to discover unknown phases of matter autonomously, allowing for automated scientific discovery of new, exotic properties of phases. The research is published in Physical Review Letters.
