1. Gemini 2.0: new AI model for the agentic era
With funding from Microsoft and OpenAI, the university’s Institutional Data Initiative (IDI) is releasing a dataset for training AI that contains nearly one million public-domain books — around five times larger than the controversial Books3 dataset.
The aim is to “level the playing field” for smaller AI developers who don’t have access to the massive datasets used by tech giants, according to IDI executive director Greg Leppert.

2. Apple Is Working on AI Chip With Broadcom
Apple is working with Broadcom to develop its first server chip specifically designed for artificial intelligence processing. The move aligns Apple with other tech companies that have developed their own chips to power compute-heavy AI services and reduce reliance on Nvidia's expensive and short-in-supply processors.
Apple's AI chip, internally coded Baltra, is expected to be ready for mass production by 2026. The chip will be made using Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co's advanced manufacturing process, known as N3P.

3. Why 'digital twins' could speed up drug discovery
Adsilico, a company that creates computer-generated hearts, has gone beyond creating one accurate model to create multiple different hearts that reflect biological attributes, health conditions, and ethnic backgrounds. This allows device manufacturers to conduct trials across diverse populations, capturing the full diversity of patient anatomies and physiological responses.
AI-powered digital twins can help reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by medical devices, as well as provide more detailed results. Adsilico's AI models are trained on a combination of cardiovascular data and real MRI and CT scans.
