1. Exists launches GenAI platform to create 3D games from text prompts
Exists is launching a cloud-based creation platform that uses generative AI models to create game-ready environments, characters, and mechanics. The platform's user-friendly interface eliminates traditional technical barriers, making game development simple.
Exists' neural network architecture integrates AI breakthroughs with advanced gaming engine capabilities. The platform is currently in its closed Beta phase and is working with leading gaming studios to integrate its technology as a user-generated content platform for released games. Exists will showcase its new technology at Gamescom 2024 in Cologne, Germany.

2. Google’s upgraded AI image generator is now available
Google has released the latest version of its AI text-to-image generator, Imagen 3, to users in the US. The tool, available on Google's AI Test Kitchen, is designed to generate images with better detail, richer lighting, and fewer distracting artifacts compared to previous models. It can create detailed images based on user prompts and edit them by highlighting specific parts and describing desired changes.
It will decline images of public figures, weapons, and named copyrighted characters. Imagen 3 stands in contrast to Grok, the AI image generator on Elon Musk's X platform, which has been used to generate wild content. Google's AI tools have faced issues, including a ban on generating images with its Gemini AI chatbot due to historically inaccurate images.

3. Brain chip allows man to speak again
Scientists at the University of California, Davis have developed a brain chip that can interpret brain signals and read them aloud by a computer in real time. The chip, implanted in the left precentral gyrus, has helped 45-year-old Casey Harrell, who has slurred speech due to muscle control loss in ALS, communicate in a computerized voice.
The voice assistant software connected to Harrell's BCI is designed to sound like his voice before the disease took hold using artificial intelligence trained with audio samples of him pre-ALS. The chip's translation algorithm was built with natural speech flow in mind, making it easier for users to be understood.

4. Artists score major win in copyright case against AI art generators
Artists have cleared a major hurdle in a lawsuit against generative AI art generators, Stability and Runway, over the unauthorized use of billions of images downloaded from the internet to train AI systems. U.S. District Judge William Orrick advanced all copyright infringement and trademark claims, allowing key claims to move forward.
The case could entangle any AI company that incorporated the model into its products. The case revolves around the LAION data set, which was built using 5 billion images allegedly scraped from the internet and utilized by Stability and Runway to create Stable Diffusion.

5. Prompt caching with Claude
Prompt caching is now available on the Anthropic API, allowing developers to cache frequently used context between API calls. This can reduce costs by up to 90% and latency by up to 85% for long prompts. Prompt caching is effective in situations where large amounts of prompt context are sent once and then referred to repeatedly in subsequent requests.
Early customers have seen substantial speed and cost improvements with prompt caching for various use cases. Notion is adding prompt caching to its AI assistant, Notion AI, to optimize internal operations and create a more responsive user experience.
