2. About a quarter of U.S. teens have used ChatGPT for schoolwork – double the share in 2023

A Pew Research Center survey shows that 26% of US teens use ChatGPT for schoolwork, up from 13% in 2023. However, 73% have not used the chatbot. Black and Hispanic teens are more likely to use it, while 11th and 12th graders are more likely.

Teens show more support for using ChatGPT for research and research-related tasks than for essays or math problems. 79% of teens have heard of ChatGPT, and those familiar with it are more likely to use it for schoolwork.

3. Mira Murati’s AI Startup Makes First Hires, Including Former OpenAI Executive

Former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati has founded a new AI research lab, AGI, focusing on Artificial General Intelligence. The startup has recruited former head of special projects Jonathan Lachman and engineers from OpenAI, Character #AI, and Google DeepMind.

Other former OpenAI executives have founded startups, such as Safe Superintelligence, which raised $1 billion, and Anthropic, which secured $8 billion from Amazon.

4. OpenAI confirmed you can now give ChatGPT “custom instructions”

Sequoia Capital is set to lead a $300 million funding round for artificial intelligence startup Harvey, valued at $3 billion. The deal would more than double Harvey's valuation, bringing it into the ranks of multibillion-dollar startups. Harvey, which develops generative AI tools for law firms, has raised over $200 million to date.

Sequoia first invested in Harvey in 2023. Coatue Management is set to join the current funding round as a new investor. Harvey operates in an increasingly crowded space, competing with other well-funded legal AI companies like EvenUp Inc. and Robin AI.
