Apple’s AI Push Sets Stage for Everything From Glasses to Robots
1. Apple’s AI push sets stage for everything from glasses to robots
Apple's upcoming suite of AI features will enhance its existing products, speeding up day-to-day tasks and delivering relevant information. The push into AI will enable a new generation of hardware products, designed to better use voice control and serve up information when customers need it. Apple will need to shift from the hardware-software-services approach to become a hardware-AI-cloud company.
The upcoming iPhone 16 line will support the entire AI feature suite, with features delivered partly via the cloud. AI will enable potentially game-changing hardware, including home robotics, augmented reality glasses, and AI-powered health coaches.

2. Groundbreaking AI heart attack scans could soon be rolled out across UK
An AI system could soon be operational across Britain, identifying people likely to suffer heart attacks up to 10 years in the future. The technology is being assessed by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice), and a decision on its use in the NHS is expected by the end of the year.
The project's scientists are also working on similar AI systems to predict stroke risk and to spot those at risk of conditions like diabetes. If installed nationally, it could save thousands of people from early heart attacks or deaths from heart disease.

3. Meta to use Instagram and Facebook posts from as far back as 2007 to train artificial intelligence tools
Australians with Facebook and Instagram accounts will be forced to use their social activity to train Meta's AI tools, starting June 26. The policy update will use user data from 2007 to train and improve AI tools, including posts, photos, captions, and messages to Meta's AI chatbot.
Only users in the European Union and the US state of Illinois can opt out, as they have AI protection laws like GDPR. Most Australians are not aware of the policy update, and the hashtag #noaiart has gained popularity.

4. Scientists create an AI chatbot that lets you talk to your future self
MIT has developed Future You, an AI-powered chatbot that simulates a user at 60 years old. The chatbot offers plausible stories about the user's life and sage wisdom from the future. In a trial of 334 volunteers, the chatbot left users feeling less anxious and more connected to their future selves.
The technology has only been privately tested as part of a study, but could be made available to the public in the coming years. The AI generates synthetic memories to build a coherent backstory from the user's information.

5. Microsoft says AI feature that captures screenshots on new PCs will be off by default after backlash
Microsoft has removed the Recall feature on new Copilot+ PCs, which captures screenshots and allows searching of user activity, by default due to security researchers determining that attackers could access the underlying data.
The feature, which stores data on users' computers, is different from ChatGPT and Copilot, which rely on cloud computing. Microsoft is adding security protections and requiring users to manually turn it on once Copilot+ PCs become available.
