3. South Korean AI chip developers Rebellions and Sapeon to merge

South Korean AI chip developers Rebellions and Sapeon Korea are reportedly pursuing a merger to challenge global leader Nvidia. The merger aims to win the global AI semiconductor market within two to three years, a crucial time for South Korea as AI competition intensifies globally.

4. Spawning wants to build more ethical AI training datasets

Spawning AI, founded by Jordan Meyer and Mathew Dryhurst, is launching a project called Source.Plus to curate "non-infringing" media for AI model training. The project's first initiative is a dataset with nearly 40 million public domain images and images under the Creative Commons' CC0 license, allowing creators to waive nearly all legal interest in their works.

The goal is to make it easy for rights holders to offer their media for use in generative AI training and frictionless for developers to incorporate that media into their training workflows.
